"10" is one of the most emblematic squad numbers in football, due to the sheer number of football legends that have worn the number 10 shirt playmakers, second strikers, and attacking midfielders have worn this number. "9" is usually worn by strikers, also known as centre-forwards, who hold the most advanced offensive position on the pitch, and are often the highest scorers in the team. It is also the only position on the field that is required to be occupied. įor instance, "1" is frequently used by the starting goalkeeper, as the goalkeeper is the first player in a line-up. Still, there are some numbers that are universally agreed upon being used for a particular position, because they are quintessentially associated with that role. Īs national leagues adopted squad numbers and game tactics evolved over the decades, numbering systems evolved separately in each football scene, and so different countries have different conventions. However, numbers 1–11 are often still worn by players of the previously associated position. Numbers very soon became a way to also indicate position, with starting players being assigned numbers 1–11, although in the modern game they are often influenced by the players' favourite numbers and other less technical reasons, as well as using "surrogates" for a number that is already in use. Squad numbers are used in association football to identify and distinguish players that are on the field. The Etruscan name for them is unknown, but the Romans called them buccina and cornu. Depictions of these instruments are found from the 5th century BC onward on Etruscan funerary monuments. The lur was likely known to the Etruscans, noted as bronze-workers from the 8th century BC, who in turn were credited by the Romans with the invention of their horns and trumpets, including long curved horns in the form of a letter C or G. Because their makers left no written histories, their use and manner of playing is unknown. ![]() Many are in unison pairs, curved in opposite directions. ![]() Nearly fifty of these curved bronze horns have been excavated from burial sites, mostly in Scandinavia, since the first was discovered in 1797. A variant of the straight version is called tulnic. ![]() They are made in straight, hooked, and S-shaped forms, in lengths between 1.5 and 3 meters. Similar wooden instruments, used by shepherds for signalling, are known in Romania by the name bucium. The practice of making these instruments in different sizes, to be played together in part music, originated in 1826. The more familiar form, with an upturned bell, was developed in Switzerland in the eighteenth century. Nevertheless, one modern authority says that at the time it was a straight instrument eleven feet long, and this form persisted in Austria until the nineteenth century. This description by the naturalist Conrad Gessner calls the instrument a lituus alpinus and says it is "nearly eleven feet long, made from two pieces of wood slightly curved and hollowed out, fitted together and skillfully bound with osiers". įrom late antiquity there are mentions of "alpine horns", but the earliest secure description of the wooden instrument now called an " alphorn" dates from the sixteenth century. In Europe they came to be symbols of royalty. Apparently of Asian origin, they reached Europe from Byzantium in the tenth or eleventh century, and are first mentioned in French literature in the early 12th century. The olifant or oliphant (an abbreviation of the French cor d'olifant/ oliphant, " elephant horn") was the name applied in the Middle Ages to ivory hunting or signalling horns made from elephants' tusks. The genus of animal-horn instruments to which the shofar belongs is called קרן ( keren) in Hebrew, qarnu in Akkadian, and κέρας ( keras) in Greek. Size and QuantityĬonsider the size and quantity of the double-sided tape you need. However, keep in mind that the tape loses some of its adhesion with each application. This makes buying a roll of tape an economical fastener solution, as you can use one piece multiple times. If a double-sided tape is fairly easy to remove, it’s probably designed to be washed and reused. Some manufacturers may suggest warming the area before removing their tape, which makes it easier to peel it off smoothly in one piece. Removalĭespite its strong adhesive, quality double-sided tape shouldn’t leave a trail of sticky residue behind after you remove it. Conversely, wider double-sided tape is useful if you want to cover more surface area using a single strip. Narrow tape sits between two thin objects without being visible. The length of the tape roll must match how much adhesion you need, but the width also matters. ![]() Double-sided adhesive tape isn’t as strong as nails or screws, but you’re sacrificing strength for convenience. ![]() As it is, this is the best solution I've discovered so far. This will open the Drop Shadow window, where you can select the settings of your drop shadow in Illustrator. If anyone knows how I can fix this shadow or knows of another way I can draw a line that I can easily manipulate the curve and length of while still applying a stroke and dropshadow to it, I'm all ears. To add a drop shadow in Illustrator, select your shape (s) and just go to Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow. It looks like it's picking up the white color from the stroke even though I have the shadow set to use the color Black. However, the dropshadow is showing up more like a white glow than a black shadow. So I then drop this path composition into my main composition where I can position it over the map and give it a white stroke and a dropshadow. Drop Shadow is a commonly used effect in Adobe After Effects that creates a shadow for the selected layer, giving the illusion of depth and a 3D effect. As it is a stroke on a path for ease of animation, I find that I cannot add a white stroke to it. If I were to add a simple drop shadow to this layer. Heres what the result will look like with. You can see that a little bit of a wiggly motion is very subtle, but that subtlety really sells the effect. I make the stroke of this path the color I need for the body of my line (red or blue), set the stroke width to 24 and set it's line caps to Round Cap, and set the opacity of the fill to 0. And then I show you how to customize the effect by choosing a border and shadow color directly from the image itself. Customize it: In the Drop Shadow Layer Style dialog box that opens, select the Structure and Quality effects you want for your shadow. ![]() Click it: Click the FX icon at the bottom of the Layers panel and select Drop Shadow. ![]() Because the lines can change shape and length, I found that my best option is to draw a line path in a composition that I can animate the shape and length of (using trim path).
